Mister Montana Nic's career spans nearly a decade of elite-level competition across domestic and international reining — a longevity matched by very few horses at the premium open level. He debuted at the 2001 NRHA Open Futurity as a three-year-old and placed 7th. He returned to major competition in 2004 and 2005, winning the CRIO NRHA Futurity Gold Medal and earning the FEI World Reining Masters Silver Medal in Manerbio, Italy in 2005 — establishing him as a legitimate international competitor. In 2006 he won the NRBC $25,000 Open Reserve Championship, one of the most valuable checks in reining at the time.
The defining chapter of his career came in 2010 with Craig Schmersal — NRHA Multi-Million Dollar Rider — in the saddle. The pair won the 2010 AQHA Senior Reining World Championship and the 2010 Florida Reining Horse Classic Open Championship.
