Trained and shown throughout his entire career by NRCHA Million Dollar Rider Todd Bergen, Nic It In The Bud made his debut at the 2000 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity in Reno, qualifying for the Open finals. Less than three months later he traveled to the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City and again earned a berth in the Open finals — back-to-back futurity finalists in two different associations in the same season. As a four-year-old in 2001, he dominated the NRCHA aged event circuit, winning both the Stakes Open Championship and the Derby Open Championship — a double that confirms elite consistency, not a single peak. He was also an AQHA World Championship finalist in Junior Reining that year.
Bergen's comment after the 2002 Woodside Derby tells the complete story of this horse's natural ability: two days of reining preparation, then a Derby Championship. When he advanced to bridle horse age in 2003, Nic It In The Bud proved he could sustain elite performance at any stage of competition, earning the World's Greatest Horseman Reserve Championship and finishing top 10 at the AQHA World Show in Senior Working Cow Horse. He returned to WGH in 2007 and won the Preliminary Rein Work Championship — a long career defined by consistent excellence from futurity through aged events. He retired with lifetime earnings of approximately $148,165 across reining, reined cow horse, and cutting.
As a sire, Nic It In The Bud became the 13th horse to achieve NRCHA Million Dollar Sire status, confirmed in 2014 alongside Dual Rey. His reined cow horse offspring have earned $1,001,722+ (NRCHA confirmed). Combined NRHA and NRCHA offspring earnings total $2,723,993+ per Stallion Central. He reached top 12 NRCHA sire and top 30 NRHA sire rankings in 2009, then climbed to top 10 in both associations in 2011. The Reminic x Genuine Doc pedigree — two Hall of Fame sire lines combining NRHA supremacy with AQHA all-around athleticism and intelligence — continues producing versatile, competitive offspring across cow horse and reining disciplines.
